Understanding Righteousness
Scripture: Romans 5:17 - (NLT)
“For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.”
Devotional
Righteousness is a gift, not something we work for or attain through personal effort. While Adam’s sin brought death after he disobeyed God, Christ redeemed humanity and bestowed upon us the gracious gift of righteousness. When you receive a gift, you can choose to accept it or to reject it, utilize it, or shelve it. Those who receive this gift are invited to live in triumph over sin and death. When we find ourselves struggling with sin, it may be because we have yet to fully rest in the significance of this gift. We are encouraged to remember that our position with God is a gift of grace, providing us with the strength to walk in victory.
Reflection Questions:
- Do I truly believe that righteousness is a gift given to me freely by God, or am I still trying to earn it?
- How can I better accept and exercise this gift to live triumphantly over sin?
Prayer Declaration
Father, I thank You for the gift of righteousness. I receive it with understanding and declare that I stand right before You through Christ. I choose to accept and appropriate this gift so that it may be effective and working in every area of my life. Amen.
