Christmas is filled with wonder. Yet under the twinkly lights and piles of paper and ribbon, all its promise can be lost in our must-do lists, noisy distractions, or dreams dismantled by the stuff of life. Instead, let’s journey to the manger where Jesus came for our rescue. Realizing that we will only begin to scratch the surface of Who He is and what He has done in this lifetime.

Much of the Bible's poetry serves as songs and hymns of praise to God. At times, life was difficult for Israel, but it was also filled with joy.. The story of Christmas offers a great promise. It speaks into the hopelessness and restlessness of our day by revealing a God who has been on mission to save us. From the beginning of our human story, God promised a Rescuer. When he made good on that promise, he did so in an unexpected way: by sending his Son! Come experience this story and unwrap the promises it offers you.

When a woman is pregnant, she is “expecting.” What a beautiful way to describe pregnancy! After all, parents eagerly await the arrival of their child. But no child has ever been awaited as intensely and for as long as the promised Savior: Jesus Christ.

When God’s Kingdom comes, what does it look like? In Luke, Mary prays a powerful prayer, praising, and predicting the return of a God who feeds the hungry, exalts the poor, rescues servants, and keeps His promises. Jesus, in his own ministry, lives out this vision every step of the way.

Committing scripture to memory can be difficult. Singing along with a song isn’t. It’s with this idea, songwriter Kacey Walkingstick has written the Gospel of Luke into song, word for word. This study will focus on chapters 1-3 and cover the Christmas story. Read and hum along to the story of Jesus. You may have heard the Gospel, yet you’ve never heard it like this!

Our kind of Christmas isn’t working. The status quo of our holiday season pushes us into busyness, distraction, and exhaustion instead of the rest and relief that Jesus came to bring. This Plan redirects us to God’s kind of Christmas, where we slow down, catch our breath, read everything the gospels say about the birth of Jesus, and remember everything that is ours through faith in our Prince of peace.

Advent comes from the Latin adventus , meaning “arrival, approach.” During this season leading up to Christmas, we reflect on the longing of God’s people for the Messiah, which was fulfilled in the arrival of Jesus—God made flesh, Light from Light, wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. Advent has another purpose, too: drawing our spiritual gaze toward the future when, as we affirm in the Nicene Creed, Jesus “will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.” This resource will guide you through both aspects of Advent reflection.

Our most stressful times are when we feel boxed in. You feel stuck in a relationship. You feel trapped in a career choice. You feel strapped due to financial stress or hemmed in due to your health. In this reading plan, we will study how the promises of God, the presence of God, and the resurrection of Jesus offer us help for today and hope for tomorrow.

The birth of Christ, His advent, marks God's ultimate plan for our redemption. In Christ, we see the fullest picture of God's hope, peace, joy and love. God's Word is the truth by which we know and walk with Him daily. It is our hope that this guide will encourage and facilitate personal time spent in the Word and provide a resource for families with children to do that together.

We will reflect on Scripture in both the Old and New Testaments that all point towards the coming of Christ. As we look at the story of Christ’s anticipated arrival over this Christmas season, our prayer at New Life Church is that you would remember that Jesus came to be the embodiment of God’s promises for salvation and redemption.
