When I was four years old, my great-grandparents would take me on a dinner date every Friday night. I’d put on my best dress, hop in their two-tone brown Cadillac, and ride to the Sirloin Stockade. And each Friday after our dinner, they’d treat me to a trinket or toy at the local Kmart. One night as we drove from the steak house to the store, we ran out of gas. Now, nothing bad happened to us. We pulled over and someone brought us gas. But as a little girl, I was saddened because we'd missed our Kmart trip. No toy that night. And for months and months later,
each time I’d ride in the car with my parents or aunt or parents of friends, I’d ask, “Do you have enough gas?” “Are you going to run out?”
Reflection: Who has run out on you? What has betrayed you? Just because you can’t trust others, doesn’t mean you can’t trust God. Just because others may have failed you, doesn’t mean God will fail you.
Stop allowing past hurts to hurt your trust in God. Freedom requires us to trust God. Do you?
