DAY 6 OF 7

Peters Denial: The Answer

When Jesus told Peter that he would deny Him, Peter responded with bold confidence. In the Gospel of Matthew 26:33–35, he insisted, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.” He even declared he was ready to die with Jesus.

Was Peter bragging a little? Perhaps. His confidence was sincere—but it was rooted in his own strength. He believed his loyalty would be enough.

But after his failure, forgiveness, and restoration, something changed.

Peter no longer boasted in himself. Instead, he pointed to God’s power. In the First Epistle of Peter 1:5, he reminds believers that we are shielded by God’s power through faith. His confidence had shifted from self-reliance to God-reliance.

When Jesus told Peter to “feed My sheep,” He was giving him a calling (see First Epistle of Peter 5:2–3). Peter was to care for God’s people—not by lording authority over them, but by serving as an example. The once fearful disciple became a shepherd to others.

After being filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter boldly preached the gospel—even to some of the very people involved in Jesus’ death. In Acts of the Apostles 2:38, he calls them to repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. The man who once denied Christ now proclaimed Him fearlessly.

It is no surprise that Peter wrote often about grace. In First Epistle of Peter 5:10–12, he speaks of the “true grace of God.” Peter understood grace personally. He had failed publicly. He had been restored personally. He knew that salvation is not earned—it is given.

Grace is God’s unearned favour. It lifts us when we fall. It strengthens us when we are weak. It calls us forward into purpose we could never achieve on our own.

Reflection Questions

  • Are you relying on your own strength—or God’s power?
  • How has God shown you grace in your life?
  • Who can you encourage this week with the Good News of Jesus?

Peter’s story reminds us: our greatest failures can become testimonies of God’s greatest grace. Eternal life is a gift. Receive it with humility. Share it with boldness.

Prayer
Thank You, Jesus, for the gift of eternal life, which I can never earn by my own efforts. Help me share this Good News with others! Amen.
