As we dig into Scripture, we’ll see how he is disrupting politics-as-usual and inviting us into a grander vision for kingdom life.

The Lent Project is an initiative of Biola University's Center for Christianity, Culture and the Arts. Each daily devotion includes a portion of Scripture, a devotional, a prayer, a work of visual art or a video, a piece of music, and a poem plus brief commentaries on the artworks and artists. The Seven Last Words of Christ refers to the seven short phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, as gathered from the four Christian gospels. This devotional project connects word, image, voice and song into daily meditations on these words.

Jesus’ followers who watched Him die decide to wait to see what will happen next. Joseph of Arimathea offers his tomb, and the Priest Caiaphas convinces Rome to guard it — but they’re no match for the inevitable.

At one point in our lives, we've all experienced the feeling of being abandoned, left out or betrayed. When people close to us are the ones that inflict these feelings, it’s even harder to overcome. In Plan 17 we see Jesus betrayed by those closest to Him. The different ways in which Jesus and those who betrayed Him responded gives us insight into different ways in which we may respond.

Darkness. Are you afraid of the dark? Darkness is all around us, yet God calls us to His Light. Experience the darkest day in history when Jesus Christ was crucified and God’s glorious light when He rose from the dead. Shine His light with the truth of the gospel.
