The Lent Project is an initiative of Biola University's Center for Christianity, Culture and the Arts. Each daily devotion includes a portion of Scripture, a devotional, a prayer, a work of visual art or a video, a piece of music, and a poem plus brief commentaries on the artworks and artists. The Seven Last Words of Christ refers to the seven short phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, as gathered from the four Christian gospels. This devotional project connects word, image, voice and song into daily meditations on these words.

This 8-Day devotional pairs Scripture with study notes and images adapted from the ESV Archaeology Study Bible —all designed to help you enter into the story of Jesus’s final days and travel through Scripture on his path to the cross, learning more about the people and places he encountered along the way.

Welcome to Holy Week. For centuries, the Church has used this week to dedicate the fullness of its attention to Christ’s passion, resurrection, and the events leading up to it. Over the next 8 days, we will explore the gospel accounts of Holy Week and how it still impacts our everyday lives, even nearly two thousand years later.

“I have decided to follow Jesus…”, a well-known Christian hymn sings. Jesus Himself says, “Whoever does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me” (Matthew 10:38). But what does this phrase mean? How can we follow Jesus? What are the costs and what are the benefits of doing so? This reading plan helps you to answer these questions, and more.

Each trial and triumph of our life-journey holds potential. Each life-lesson teaches us more about ourselves, and even more importantly, about God. Hebrews 11:1 challenges us to walk by faith. Faith is trust. Faith is only possible when we trust the One who is faithful to complete the work He began, and never stops walking by our side.

This plan is an invitation to walk with the disciples during the Passion Week—the days leading up to Jesus’ death—and experience some of His most dramatic teachings. Each day’s readings are arranged in parallel passages of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and are filtered chronologically.

Mark is all about Jesus! This 13-day plan will walk you through the book of Mark by reading only 1-2 chapters a day. Each day is accompanied by a short devotional and video that explains what’s happening and shows you how each part of the story points to Jesus and his Gospel.

This reading plan explores the second Gospel. The persecution of Christians was on Mark's mind as he wrote this Gospel. Mark told the story of Jesus' life in ways that strengthened the faith of early Christians and encouraged them to persevere through suffering.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ is a book about what will happen in the future; but perhaps more importantly, it’s a book about who controls the future. More than sixty years after Jesus rose from the dead, He appears once again to His disciple John to tell him about the things to come. John sees Jesus in a whole new way: He is now risen, glorified, and clearly in charge of the universe. Jesus is Lord of everyone, everywhere, forever. The question for you and me is whether we will trust Him with our lives, believing that He holds both the present and the future in His all-powerful and loving hands.
