Doubt . . . Redeemed

Have you ever met a fellow believer who has never wrestled with doubts about his or her faith? Probably never.

Doubts arise for various reasons. In Thomas’s case, he was asked to believe the unbelievable. He doubted that Jesus had risen from the dead . . . even though Jesus had raised Lazarus and even though Jesus had told His disciples about His death and resurrection.

Sometimes doubters simply don’t want to believe the gospel because they know they will have to surrender to God’s will and change how they live. We all find it hard to let God be in charge.

Finally, even the strongest believers can find themselves doubting God—His goodness, His power, His love, even His existence—when life brings pain.

Doubt, however, can serve a good purpose, compelling us to determine what we believe and why, and deepening our relationship with God as we lean into Him with our pain.
