Is There Hope for My Marriage? One Good Reason to Stay Togetherಮಾದರಿ

What if We Ditched This Submission Thing?
Just because Jesus is God doesn’t mean he wasn’t tempted. He felt the angst of this world, just like all of humanity. If Jesus gave in to temptation, even a little bit, and ditched submission, there would be far-reaching consequences for all of creation! I am grateful each day that He did not give in.
In Matthew 26, we see an intimate look at Jesus' conversation with God the Father. He asked His disciples to keep watch while He walked farther into the garden to pray. It was a prayer full of anguish as Jesus contemplated death and suffering on the cross. He fought temptations to say “no” and bypass the imminent suffering of the cross. In His prayer of submission, He pleaded not to need to endure what was coming.
Was there any other way? I wonder what God the Father said to Jesus. Did He declare the impossibility of any other way to save humanity? Did He express His love for these creatures who could not even keep watch with Jesus for one hour?
Even more presumptuously, did He say my name?
Did Jesus talk about me? In all His power and knowledge, God knew every name of every person He was dying for and considered humanity’s helplessness and need for salvation in this tumultuous time in the garden. Jesus was discussing the future of humanity with His Father.
This is the Triune God discussing His love for you and me. The same love knits us together in our mothers’ wombs, fearfully and wonderfully made.
We see the oneness of the Trinity in Jesus’ submission to His Father. He not only submitted to the suffering of the cross but also to the will of the Father. As He remained faithful to the will of the Father, He had you and me in mind.
When Jesus made oneness with the Father His priority, He made our salvation possible! I’m so thankful he didn’t ditch submission to the Father!

About this Plan

Godly oneness has little to do with the dysfunctional way we often act as one but has everything to do with His desire to be in connection with us. In our five-day devotional, you’ll learn that God sees your marriage as a treasure – the beautiful, the messy, and the difficult times. We would like to thank Laura Dye and FamilyLife for providing this plan.
