The Way God Handled Grief

DAY 6 OF 6

HE CARES ENOUGH TO COLLECT OUR TEARS

The Psalmist recorded in Chapter 56:8, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”

We all have various ways of mourning and grieving loss. Some do it through tears, a beautiful release of the inner soul. Some turn bitter, and some become angry, while others look for ways to lessen their grief through worldly things like drinking, which is like wearing a band-aid or mask. Denial of loss is the wrong way to deal with life issues.

I encourage anyone grieving to claim God’s words and reach out to others in their pain. The last thing we feel like doing is often the most healing and rewarding.

It should be a comfort to all of us to know that:

• God keeps track of our sorrows, and one sweet day, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
“In my distress I (David), called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.” Psalm 18:6
“Peace I (Jesus), leave with you; my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

God handled grief by giving up His Only Son and watching Him be mistreated, abused, taunted, bullied, beaten beyond recognition, and murdered. Don’t think for a second God doesn’t understand how heartbroken we are at losses in life. He allowed this so that those who believe and trust Him would have life eternally with Him. That makes the loss here temporary for believers.

He handled grief with time, tears, faith, moving forward, compassion, and unity through family, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and leaving us not without hope but with His Word. “I am with you always, even to the ends of the world.” Matthew 28:20b

Prayer: Lord, May the readers of this devotional lean on You as they walk through their valley of grief, knowing that You truly care and that You are their Father Who loves them dearly. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

About this Plan

The Way God Handled Grief

I imagine if you are reading this plan it is because you too have lost a dear loved one. The empty void has a way of rearing the ugly head of grief and putting a fog over those left behind. I too have battled grief and as I write this devotional, for the first time, I saw how God handled grief. Come, learn with me!
