Day 4 – What Are You Consuming?

Have you ever found yourself reacting to a situation at work with fatigue, irritation, or insecurity—and then thought, “Why did I respond like that?”

Often, how we react or lead in a moment doesn’t just come from what’s happening in that moment, but from everything we’ve absorbed leading up to it. From the content we consume, the conversations that shape our mindset, and what we allow to settle in our hearts—sometimes without even realizing it.

We live in the age of content. Our minds are constantly flooded with input: social feeds, podcasts, group chats, emails, comments, headlines. Everyone is posting, preaching, and sharing. But not everything that’s said deserves space in your mind. And if we’re not intentional about what we allow ourselves to watch, listen to, read, and follow, we’ll end up feeding on what weighs us down—rather than what strengthens us.

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) gives us a powerful reminder: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Your heart—the core of your thoughts, identity, and will—is also the engine behind your work. It’s the place your decisions, creativity, and leadership flow from. If that heart is filled with comparison, noise, and negativity, eventually your actions will reflect that chaos. You’ll find yourself reacting impulsively during a meeting, feeling disoriented in critical moments, or ending your week feeling drained—despite everything you accomplished.

That’s why being intentional about digital consumption is more urgent than ever. We can’t afford to absorb content just because it’s in front of us.

Philippians 4:8 (NIV) offers a life-giving filter: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Today, applying this verse means choosing with care what we let into our minds and give our attention to. Because how you respond to a coworker, make a decision, or handle conflict directly reflects what’s happening inside of you. Living with intentionality means reclaiming your focus and deliberately choosing what nourishes your soul—every single day.

Reflective Questions:
In an age where everyone is speaking, who are you listening to? Is what you consume building you up—or breaking you down?

Practical Action for Today:
Take a 24-hour break from draining or unnecessary digital content. Instead, fill that space with something that feeds your spirit: listen to a Christian podcast, read a chapter of the Bible, or spend 20 minutes alone with God. Notice how your inner state shifts.

Prayer:
Lord, help me guard my heart with wisdom. I want to be intentional in filtering what enters my mind and soul, so I can bring clarity, love, and truth into my work. Fill me with Your voice, so that it’s Your presence that overflows from me each day. Amen.
