Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

DAY 28 OF 31

Purposeful Love, Purposeful Living

In Song of Songs 5:9–6:10, the bride passionately describes her beloved, recounting his beauty and character to those who question her love. Her words are not shallow flattery but rich with memory, affection, and recognition. When she finds him again, their reunion is marked by renewed admiration and delight. This poetic section reminds us that true love is rooted in knowing, remembering, and valuing the one we love.

In 1 Timothy 5–6, Paul gives Timothy detailed instructions for how to lead the church with integrity, humility, and wisdom. Whether addressing the care of widows, the responsibilities of leaders, or the dangers of wealth and pride, Paul calls for a life of purposeful godliness.

Together, these passages remind us that love—whether romantic or spiritual—requires attention, discipline, and direction. We are called not to drift, but to live and love with purpose, in all our relationships and responsibilities.

Reflection Question:
In what area of your life is God inviting you to return to a purposeful love, either in your devotion to Him or in your care for others?

Prayer of Illumination:
God of love and wisdom, draw me back to the purpose You have set before me. Help me to love with intention, serve with humility, and remember You in every part of my life. Speak through Your Word today and shape my heart through it. Amen.

About this Plan

Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to guide your time in God’s Word. This month’s theme is purpose. In Ecclesiastes, we question what truly matters. Song of Songs reveals the purpose of love and relationships. Paul’s letters call us to live with clarity, identity, and mission in Christ. Together, these books invite us to discover God’s purpose—and how it shapes every part of our lives.
