Day 6 – Do Not Worry, Trust God
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.”
– Philippians 4:6
How often do you find yourself worrying about life? Does anxiety hold you back from reaching your full potential? Do you dwell on what’s wrong or what could go wrong? If so, you’re not alone.
My Personal Struggle with Worry
For a long time, fear ruled my life and fueled my worries. During university, I stressed about my future, relationships, and family. The weight of uncertainty led me to unhealthy coping mechanisms, like smoking cigarettes. Though I wasn’t addicted, I used them as a temporary escape. Ironically, smoking never eased my anxiety; it only made it worse.
Fear often breeds worry. The Oxford Dictionary defines worry as “to feel or cause to feel anxious or troubled about actual or potential problems.” Worry steals peace, clouds faith, and accomplishes nothing.
God is in Control
Even now, I sometimes struggle with anxiety when life doesn’t go as planned or when there is uncertainty. But through it all, I’ve learned a truth: God is always in control. No matter the uncertainty, we can rest in the assurance that His plans are greater than our own. When we surrender to Him, we experience peace that surpasses understanding.
What Jesus Teaches About Worry
In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus reminds us to live one day at a time and not waste our days worrying. He points to the birds of the air, which neither sow nor reap, yet God provides for them. If He cares for the sparrows, how much more will He provide for you, His beloved child?
Practical Steps to Overcome Worry
Philippians 4:6-8 gives us a roadmap for peace in anxiety:
- Pray About Everything: Lay your burdens at God’s feet and trust Him with the outcome.
- Practice Gratitude: Focus on God’s blessings. Even the very breath in your lungs is something to be grateful for. As long as you are alive, there is hope. Gratitude shifts your perspective from fear to hope.
- Fix Your Thoughts on God’s Truth: Replace anxious thoughts with His promises. Let His peace guard your heart and mind.
Other helpful steps include journaling your thoughts and prayers, seeking counsel from a trusted mentor or pastor, and meditating on Scripture.
When you anchor yourself in these principles, God’s peace will flood your life. Trust Him, surrender your worries, and walk forward in faith; fearless and free.
