Doing Work Differently

10 ನ 10 ದಿನ

Hear It. Do It.

Everything in this reading plan has been building to this.

Nine characteristics. Nine daily readings. Nine sets of reflection questions and prayers. And now, as James puts it plainly: "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says" (James 1:22).

It is entirely possible to read about identity in Christ without letting it settle your soul. To understand the “Cultural Mandate” without changing how you work. To know that leadership is a spiritual gift without becoming a better leader. To grasp the theology of generosity without opening your hand. Knowledge that stays in the head and never reaches the hands and feet is, James says, a form of self-deception.

Obedience is the point.

Deuteronomy 28 contains one of the most staggering lists of blessings in the Bible, blessings God promised his people if they listened to his voice and carefully followed his commands. What is remarkable is how earthy and practical those blessings are: fruitfulness in work, productivity in their endeavours, abundance in what they make and build. God is not indifferent to the material outcomes of our faithfulness. He is deeply interested in whether his people flourish in the world.

And beyond this life, there are eternal consequences to our faithfulness. "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done" (Revelation 22:12). The work you do today, the small acts of integrity, the courageous decisions, the generous gestures, the wholehearted effort, is not invisible to God. It is being seen, and it will be remembered.

Reflection Questions

  1. Looking back over this plan, which characteristic or Scripture has had the most impact on you? What has genuinely shifted in how you think about your work?
  2. What is one specific, concrete act of obedience that this plan is calling you to? Name it, write it down, and share it with someone who can hold you accountable.
  3. How will you continue growing in the integration of your faith and your work beyond this plan? What is your next step?

Prayer

Lord, I have heard. Now help me to do. Not in my own strength, but in the power of your Spirit. I want to be a person who doesn't just consume good teaching and move on, I want to be changed by it. Take everything I have encountered in these ten days and work it deep into my life, my habits, my decisions, and my relationships. Use my ordinary daily work as an instrument of your extraordinary Kingdom. I offer it to you, imperfect, wholehearted, and yours.
Amen.
