17After his return from the defeat of Kedorlaomer and the kings who had joined with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). # 2Sa 18:18
18Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was the priest of God Most High. # Ps 110:4; Heb 5:6, 10 19And he blessed him and said,
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
Creator # 14:19 Or Possessor. of heaven and earth; # Mt 11:25
20and blessed be God Most High,
who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” # Ge 24:27
Then Abram gave him one-tenth of everything. # Ge 28:22
21The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and take the goods for yourself.”
22But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, # Ex 6:8; Da 12:7 23that I will take nothing that is yours, # 2Ki 5:16; Est 9:15–16 not a thread or a sandal strap; lest you say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ 24I will accept only that which my men have eaten and the portion that belongs to the men who went with me, Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre. Let them take their portion.”
