The Promised OneSample
Light of the World
We’ve all experienced darkness in some way, whether it’s physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. When we need help or hope, it’s not enough to know light shines somewhere else. We don’t need the knowledge that light exists; we need the light to be with us! The proximity of illumination gives us hope in our personal situation.
The light works in tandem with our eyes. Seeing is linked to the presence of light. In Luke 2 the angels appeared to the shepherds, shining with the glory of heaven (v. 9). Now the shepherds could go see what the angels proclaimed (v. 15) and praise God once they saw Jesus had arrived (v. 20).
Eight days later, Jesus was brought to the temple to be dedicated. Simeon was waiting there with a promise from God. Once he realizes Jesus the Messiah had arrived, he broke out in a prophetic song:
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel. (Luke 2:30-32)
The light of Jesus opened Simeon’s eyes to see the salvation God had in store. It wasn’t just for one city or one nation; it was for the entire world!
Jesus stepped out of Heaven into the darkness of Earth in the form of a baby. The Bible calls this the Incarnation. Because of His love for us, He became human. His light revealed the path of salvation, the way back to our Heavenly Father. What an incredible plan of amazing love!
Through Jesus, God has come to us – He is near. Even though you may not feel it, His presence is with you now. How does this truth affect you?
Prayer for Today:
Lord, thank You for the light of your Son. Open my eyes to see Your salvation, and to know Your unfailing love for me. May I share Your message of hope beyond my city and nation to the entire world. Amen.

About this Plan
The most important moment in the history of the world was when Jesus, the Light of the World, became flesh to dwell among us. Angels announced his arrival, poems were written, shepherds ran and Mary sang! Come with us on a five-day journey as we examine His light, how it inspired those around Him and how it impacts us today.
