The Source of Joy  

  The major world religions think they can please their gods through blind obedience or sacrifice. Not so the God of the Bible. He desires steadfast love. He desires for us to know Him. Out of the overflow of His love, God created the universe. He put each star in its place. He spoke and the earth was formed and filled with manifold creatures. He breathed and man, the pinnacle of His creation, came to life. Our world began and continues according to God’s design and will. Trying to live in it without acknowledging the One who made it is like stopping our ears, covering our eyes and groping in the dark. The world becomes a meaningless, painful and perplexing place where we stumble and wallow without purpose or direction.

Knowing God gives the world, and our place in it, significance. It’s unplugging the ears and taking off the blinders. Knowing God helps us make sense out of life, and even better, brings us to the source of joy. Money, food, prestige, sex and human relationships may bring temporary gratification, but only knowing God can satisfy our deepest longings. God created us to know Him, and it is in this knowing that we find true joy in fullest measure that wells up for eternity. Fullness of joy! Pleasures forevermore! All this from our gracious God who wants to be known. Don’t you want to know Him?
