The Seed Parables - Disciple Makers Series #14Sample
Our Spiritual Family vs our Physical Family
Thoughts on the message
Jesus is not showing disrespect to His mother and family. In that society – as in many today – the family is very important. We know Jesus loved them and honored them greatly.
However, Jesus is showing the importance of the “spiritual family”. He is showing us that we need to elevate the relationship of the “spiritual family” to the same level of honor as our physical family. It is not lowering the one – it is raising the other.
How do we do that?
- care for them - just like you do for your physical family
- maintain relationships – even when they can be tough
- develop strong bonds – do things together that tighten our love for each other
- pray for each other – just like you pray for family
Time to Pray
Father, I do not have the time to love all of my spiritual family like I do my physical family, but I want to model this like Jesus did. How do I do it? I want the nations to know that I give them the same level of love regardless of where they come. Spiritual brothers and sisters from the nations are my family – and I see them that way. So help me today to show that – in words, actions, my prayers, my affection and my sacrifice. I know that some will never get enough from me – I have limits. Still, I choose to give all the same level of love. In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.
