Jesus & Issues Everyone Faces - Disciple Makers Series #18Sample
Dealing with a Lack of Faith
Thoughts on the message
Jesus delivered the boy from the demon. Then He criticized the father and the disciples for their lack of faith.
The Father
He struggled trying to find someone who could help his son. Jesus wanted this man to exercise faith that God could heal his son – without Jesus present. God could use Jesus’ disciples just as well as having Jesus do it. This man did not understand the authority of God present in Jesus’ disciples.
The Disciples
They struggled and could not deal with the demon. The disciples had the “formula” for dealing with this, but struggled when it did not happen quickly. They were on the right track but stopped too soon – it needed prayer and fasting in addition to what they knew to do. They did not have the faith and confidence in what Jesus told them to do when it took longer than they expected.
Two different faith issues. If you had to deal with this situation, which area would you struggle in your faith?
Prayer
Father, I know from experience that I have struggled when freeing people from the demonic happens too slowly. I question whether I am doing it right rather than trusting You and Your promises to me. You promise that with Your Spirit in us – and the power of Your Name – the demons must leave. So whether it happens quickly or slowly, let me trust Your promises, the power of Your Name and the authority that You have given to us. I ask this in Jesus’ name Amen.

About this Plan
Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is 18 of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. Jesus now works through a series of issues over the next few chapters. This week Jesus comes down from the mount of Transfiguration – and faces many different issues.
