One Body, Different Parts: Devotions From Time Of GraceSample
You belong
If this pastor thing doesn’t work out, I could never make it as a foot model. After a freak Zamboni accident years ago (not kidding), I permanently lost part of my big toenail. Combine that with some random tufts of standard-issue male foot hair and you’ll realize why shoes always beat sandals in my wardrobe selection.
Feet have it pretty bad. Compared to the hands, they do so little. Hands shake, wave, and greet. Feet have no such marketable skills. No wonder Paul wrote, “Now if the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body” (1 Corinthians 12:15). Feet might wonder if they even belong.
Some people are the same. Maybe you don’t have the “big and flashy” talents like public speaking or natural musical ability. Maybe other people get the attention, the praise, the compliments. Maybe you wonder if your family or your church even needs you.
If so, God would like a word with you. Because he created you to be a vital part of your church community. Your volunteer work might not make the church newsletter. Your compassion for a first-time guest at church might be forgotten before the first song. But your Father in heaven knows. He sees what you do to thank him for the forgiveness of your sins.
You might not be an impressive hand. But you are an essential part of the body of Christ.

About this Plan
Different gifts and different personalities come from God. We are one body in Christ, but we are, by divine design, different. God has a plan for each of us.
