Spiritual Formation - Lessons From The PotterSample
God’s Got You
When one of the students tried his hands to form a pot at a pottery class, it turned out to be a disaster. The seasoned potter however, formed several pots in a matter of few minutes. The student was unable to do so, even after several attempts. Only after the potter applied the right amount of pressure with his own hands on the student’s hands were they able to form a perfectly shaped pot. The key was the capability of the potter; it was his hands that made the difference.
Jeremiah the prophet was commissioned as the Lord's voice to the nation of Israel. The Lord was trying to reach out to Israel in various ways so that they would reform their ways, but they continued to be rebellious and obstinate. The Lord conveyed a clear message to Jeremiah through the graphic example of the potter. The Potter was at the wheel with a disfigured pot at first, but then Jeremiah saw that the potter eventually reformed it into a beautiful work of art. Whether it was being shaped, marred or being reshaped it was all in IN HIS HANDS. Jeremiah 18:4-6 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him… “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.
Spiritual formation and transformation is ultimately in His hands. It is GOD’S work. May we, as Christ’s disciples, recognize the fact that transformation is ultimately the work of HIS hands. Whatever our circumstances, God’s got us in His control.
