Holy Week, Day 2 - Disciple Makers Series #22Sample
What to do when God asks us a question
Thoughts on the message
Have you ever had God ask you a question?
When Jesus asks questions, it is not so others could instruct Him – it was to cause them to think. It is the same here. They do not understand the implications of what they say they believe. In this case, they need to understand the Messiah must be God in human flesh.
It is the same for us today.
Here are some things that God is trying to teach us when He asks questions:
- He wants us to learn something deeper about something we believe.
- He is exposing where our words do not match our actions.
- He makes us examine the direction of our lives – we are going down a wrong path.
- He is about to teach us something new – about Himself, about us, about many things.
- Sometimes it is to make us be quiet!
God wants to ask us questions. Have a humble heart to hear it and to listen – He has something great to tell us.
Prayer
Father, today I ask for You to speak to me. Sometimes it will be words of hope and encouragement but sometimes it will be questions. Help me not to try and answer them – it just exposes my ignorance and pride. Instead, give me a heart to hear what You are about to teach me. A heart that is willing to receive the truth that You want to release to me. If Your Word rebukes me, then let me seek forgiveness and turn around. If Your Word opens new insights, then help me understand and apply them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan
Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is 22 of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. In this portion, on Day 2 of Holy Week, Jesus answers questions from the religious leaders – and then rebukes their unbelief. What do our questions reveal?
