DAY 2: How True Worship Works
We are in a generation obsessed with worship. Today there are more books and songs about worship than at any other time in history. We know the lingo, we know the stage placement, our musicianship is impeccable, but where are our hearts? Our external expressions in worship should reflect our internal posture; otherwise we are not giving God worship. We’re only performing. The acts of worship without repentance—another posture—merely become rituals.
We have mistaken what actual worship is and what worship leaders are. You are not a worship leader if you lead an unrepentant life before God. And you are not worshipping just because you are singing.
Jesus said it to the woman at the well: there’s coming a time when God will be looking for a people who will be honest with Him. He is not looking for ritual and form. He is looking for the heart.
Our true posture in worship is tested when our humanity encounters God’s divinity. If we don’t worship, we will become prideful and think we came up with some formula to invoke God’s presence. That’s not how worship works. We must reconnect our external expressions of worship with what’s really happening in our hearts.
