Honoring Christ In Our WorkSample

Honoring Christ In Our Work

DAY 1 OF 3

Jesus' work in the Cosmos

In Hebrews 8:2 the writer says this about Jesus; “We have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister [λειτουργὸς-leitourgos] in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.” Jesus here is called a minister, or servant. In the Greek, this is the word leitourgos. It is derived from leitos, “belonging to the people,” and érgon, “work.” From similar roots we get the word liturgy. What is being stated here is that Jesus is the Worship Leader, the Pastor, the Minister, the Liturgist, and the Worker on behalf of the cosmos.

Why is this important? Because, if Jesus is indeed the “worker” over the entire cosmos, then that means that every vocation is FILLED with gospel purpose. Your job, whether in the home, at play, in the marketplace, or in ministry, is filled with gospel possibilities. Your work matters to God, and it will be used by Jesus to shape the world toward his desires, if you use it correctly.

In today’s study, you will get a glimpse into Jesus’ role as our Worship Worker and Liturgist. He is greater than the angels (HEB 1:3-4), humans (HEB 2:5-11), Moses (HEB 3:1-5), the Sabbath (HEB 4:1-3), the priesthood, and Aaron the high priest (HEB 5:1-10), Abraham and Melchizedek (HEB 7:1-10), the old covenant and law (HEB 8:13), the temple system (HEB 9:11-17), and all sacrifice (HEB 10:10).

In today’s study meditate on all that Christ does in his work (his liturgy and rhythms). Spend time meditating on how exalted and unique his ministry is from ours, and allow our great leader, Jesus, to bring you into the Father’s presence through his work.

Accompanying this study is over 300-Hours of video footage from 150 of today's top Christian thinkers on culture, creativity, innovation, and invention at www.makejesusculture.com and www.gardencityproject.com.
