Holy Week: Betrayal, Arrest, & Condemnation - Disciple Maker Series #25Sample

Holy Week: Betrayal, Arrest, & Condemnation - Disciple Maker Series #25

DAY 5 OF 6

Dealing With the World's Attack - Jesus' Way

Thoughts on the message

Two things here. First, we begin the journey to the cross with Jesus. It starts with Judas bringing soldiers to arrest Him. Peter tries to defend Jesus with a sword. Jesus stops him – Jesus does not need to have Peter defend Him – He has all the armies of heaven available to Him. Also, we learn an important lesson; those who use force (physical, words, or emotional for example) will fall by exactly the same way. Remember this when you struggle with someone.

Second, when Jesus chooses not to fight – His followers run away. They were afraid when they could not meet force with force. They did not know any other way of doing it. That is why prayer must be our first approach to dealing with problems. It opens the door for God to bring victory in ways other than what we can see.

Prayer

Father, I need to be a man of prayer. A man that prays before the problems arise because when they come, I will try and do things in my own wisdom. My own wisdom is no better than the disciples'! They failed miserably and so will I. So today I just pray for this day. There are things I see coming (and things I do not), people I know I must work with who are difficult, challenges that must be faced. Still, I do not want to use my own wisdom. I want to ask You ahead of time for Your wisdom and understanding. Also, the challenges of today will not be what I expect – and I need to know that You will help me at that time to know what to do. So guide me I pray. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Holy Week: Betrayal, Arrest, & Condemnation - Disciple Maker Series #25

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is 25 of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew.  In this portion, Jesus faces the first of the challenges of the day on the cross. Betrayal by a friend, abandoned by disciples and a rigged trial – because He prayed first.
