5 Days To Pray And FastSample
Praying
One of the greatest aspects of being a follower of Christ, is prayer. We want to be going deep in our life of prayer. Not just thanking God for the day or food, but becoming a person who calls out to God in good and bad.
Usually, everyone feels that they need to pray more. We all do. Jesus talked about being prayerful people. He tells us not to worry about the amount of words we are using. There’s no need to stand in street corners praying long, eloquent prayers for everyone to see. Now, I know you’re thinking, “praying in street corners?” That would get us arrested in today’s society, but it is what the Pharisees would do 2,000 years ago. Jesus is saying that none of that is necessary. How He wants us to pray is privately and individually. A time and place where we can connect and be intimate with the Father.
Followers of Christ choose invisible power over visible praise. It’s not about how smart or spiritual you will look when you pray in front of friends or your pastor. It is about pouring out your heart to God. Even when there’s nothing to say, He knows what you’re thinking. The prayers you pray today, from the privacy of your time, can affect something that happens 10 years from now. Did you know God is going to answer some prayers that you might have been praying a while ago? Before I was married, I was praying for my wife. Before I had kids, I was praying for my kids. I love throwing prayers into the future. There’s a power with invisible prayer that has nothing to do with visible praise.
Choose intimacy with God through prayer. It’s not about big words but a big heart. Asking God to do something deep in you that gives you clarity. Jesus was a man who spent a lot of time in solitude praying with the Father. He would spend all night in the garden praying with God.
Think about a marriage. A good marriage is not based on how good the couple is with a group of people, but how they are when it’s just the two of them. We’ve all had friends that we thought were a great couple, and then we get the news of their divorce. It’s the same with God. It’s not about your public life with God, but your intimacy with Him.
