Fish

When Jesus called his first disciples, two fishermen, He called them to a higher purpose. They were fishermen, but Jesus called them to a new adventure of fishing for people. He made a simple promise: that if they followed Him, He will MAKE them fishers of men. For us to fish for men, we must understand the heart of God and his desire to see people saved. Jesus came with a clear purpose: to seek and save the lost. His unfailing love drove Him to leave the comfort of heaven, cross all imaginable barriers and bring the gospel of salvation to a dying world.

When we understand that true discipleship always starts with evangelism and ends with evangelism, we will also leave our comfort zones to cross the street, cross the room and cross the border to go and reach the lost. Jesus’ heart will start beating in all of us. A heart to see people come to the saving knowledge of Christ. We are called to be witnesses and to intentionally reach out. This isn’t some special gift for just the evangelists. This is for all of us and there is no better place to catch the heart of God for the lost than in prayer.

When was the last time you intentionally reached out to an unsaved friend or stranger, sharing the good news of Jesus?

Prayer response:

1. Pray that God will break your heart for the lost.
2. Ask the Holy Spirit how you can reach out to those you’ve been praying for on your prayer list, perhaps it’s as simple as a text message, a phone call or an appointment over lunch.
3. Pray for a nation that God shows you.
