Untouchable: Unraveling The Myth That You're Too Faithful To Fall

DAY 6 OF 7

Day 6: The Death of the Myth, Part 3

One thing I learned in my single years in the midst of the failure was the importance of establishing guardrails. These are boundaries you set in place to protect you from straying off the path and getting hurt. How else would you guard your heart, unless you are able to identify ways to protect it? Establish those boundaries that protect your heart, and out of a healthy heart, life flows.

Guardrails are important because they protect you and keep you in the lane you’re meant to follow. When you’re driving late at night and taking curves in the dark, those guardrails serve as a safety precaution. Without them there to mark the way and keep you on the road, you’re in danger.

You need them in life, too. Establishing guardrails keeps you on a safe path away from evil, which leads to death. Putting them in place keeps you from wandering off track and engaging in what’s unhealthy.

There are four ways to help implement guardrails:

  1. Identify Your Areas of Weakness
  2. Make a List
  3. Establish the Guardrails
  4. Stick with It

A question I’ve heard often over the years is, “How close can I get before it’s a sin?” Buzzzzz. Wrong approach! It’s not about how close can you get before it’s a sin; it’s about how far can you stay away so that you’re above reproach.

A guardrail isn’t meant to be placed right up against the sin zone. They aren’t going to place a guardrail on the highway at the edge; it’s placed where there’s a buffer between the road and the cliff. Too close, on the highway and in life, and a fall might still be possible.

Although implementing guardrails may seem difficult or inconvenient, there are few things that will actually benefit you more. Some could argue that they are limitations, but the truth is, there is freedom in guardrails. A freedom to live victoriously and vibrantly!
