If you were around in the 1960s and 70s you probably remember the tv commercial about Texaco service stations…”You can trust your car, to the man who wears the star; the big bright Texaco star!”
It’s so hard to imagine now. Driving up to a gas station and men coming out to fill your tank, clean your windshield, and check your oil.
Even harder to imagine gas being 30 cents per gallon back then.
But it happened then. That level of trust. Service. Attention. And care.
30 cent gas and full service stations may be a thing of the past...but trust, service, love, and attention to care need not be.
This meditation from the fourth chapter of 1st John will help you learn to recognize moments to serve. Opportunities to care. And possibilities to show love through divine encounters with God.
Resting in imaginative contemplation for a moment...see that service station again. People rushing out to your car the moment you pull up at a service station. That’s interesting. They aren’t even called service stations anymore but gas stations. But imagine being serviced. Someone getting you gas, checking oil, cleaning windshield, checking tire pressure. How does it feel? Does it seem foreign? Enjoyable? Do you miss it? Rest there in that moment. Be present there reflecting how it feels to be cared for. Loved.
Today you have the opportunity to love. To serve and care for others. Expect to see that opportunity today. It may not be cleaning someone’s windshield...or you know what? Maybe it is. But look for that moment of care today and let it remind you of God’s care for you.
Now, let me pray you remember that as God so loved you in this incredible way, you also ought to love others. That if you love others [with unselfish concern], God abides in you, and His love is completed and perfected in you. And by showing this kind of love you will be a testament that God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world Amen.
About this Plan
How would you describe your faith journey? Is it a well-established fire? Is it warming? Comforting? Does it push away darkness? Or is merely a spark? Not quite yet a flame? Hardly casting a shadow. These guided audio meditations will help recognize a spark from an encounter with God. And watch the spark turn to flame. Pushing out fear and darkness.
