Aftermath: Coming Down The MountainSample
Back To “Reality”
Have you ever had a great weekend before? Not a weekend full of homework or work around the house. I’m talking about a weekend spent playing Fortnite, eating way too much junk food, going to the beach, and just getting to kick back with friends. When we have those weekends, the last thing we want to do is go back to reality, AKA School.
That feeling of having to go back to school is the same kind of feeling you get when you come back down from a mountaintop experience. It’s the feeling of going, “back to reality.”
The reality you return to could involve the stress of school, family problems, or other relationship problems. Once we start to deal with these issues again, we start to wish we could be back on the mountain, stress-free and worshipping God. There can be beauty when we come down from the mountain though, because we are able to take what we have learned on the mountain, and bring it back home to our reality. Jesus did this often.
We see Jesus get away from reality and focus on His relationship with God. When Jesus does this, we see how He comes back to reality and people start to ask Jesus for certain things. In Matthew 17, we’ll see Jesus get away from reality and have an amazing moment with God just to go back down to a wild situation.
When Jesus comes back from these moments with God, He comes as the light of the world. We carry this same power within us – to do good, to love others, and spread His name. This is the power we have when we come back to reality.
Challenge:
- What reality do you find the hardest when coming back down from camp?
- Was there something that God showed you at camp that you can take back down to reality and apply it to your everyday life?
- PRAY: God we thank You for the moments we got to experience Your love at camp. I pray as we come down the mounting and come back to reality that we use what we have learned at camp in our day to day life’s. We give you the honor and glory in all we do. Amen
