U-Turns In Life

DAY 1 OF 4

Today's primary verse is Jeremiah 29:11. Let's look deeper at that as well as watch the video. When the seventy years of captivity had ended, God promised to restore His people (Jeremiah 29:10, 14). Many Christians are familiar with Jeremiah 29:11, but they don’t know its context.

For I know the plans I have for you … plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (29:11)

God’s promise to bless His people in the midst of a pagan culture takes on greater significance when it’s seen in the context of exile and no apparent hope.

Notice, though, that this promise was conditioned on God’s people seeking Him in a new way:

You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)

This is where we need to turn—not to the economic titans and power brokers of the world. But this requires seeking God “with all our hearts.” This demands more than attending church on Sunday, tapping our foot to the music, hearing a sermon, and saying, “amen.” Unless we commit our hearts to the Lord 24/7, we will be no different twelve months from now. But when we worship the Lord through our day-to-day walk with Him and seek His divine perspective through His Word in all we do, He’s ready to talk.
