Ephesus was a city rich in diversity. Nestled on the western edge of what is modern-day Turkey, Ephesus served as a major port city along the Aegean Sea. It was a center for diverse economic trade as well the trading of ideas and religious experience. The economic, political, and social machine of the city centered on the worship of the goddess Artemis (also known as Diana). Her temple is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. 

Paul stayed and taught in Ephesus for nearly three years, disrupting not just their religious beliefs, but the social constructions and economy. The lucrative business of Artemis statues and books of divination came to a screeching halt. It was during this time that Paul redirected their purpose and hope. 

Is it really your responsibility to share the gospel? What if it is not your gift? What if in your lack of knowledge or skill you get something wrong? After all, didn’t God give us all different gifts? Paul told the Ephesian church that some were called to be prophets, some evangelists, some teachers and pastors. The answer is a resounding yes! As you continue to grow in your faith and knowledge of Christ, God will continue to provide you with opportunities to be a witness. Your job is to look for the opportunities and allow God to work through you.
