Journey Witnesses

DAY 167 OF 221

Proverbs 29 is part of a collection of proverbs gathered by Hezekiah’s men about 250 years after Solomon wrote them. These men were charged with copying and grouping them into what we currently possess in the Old Testament. Specifically, Chapter 29 raises the concern and impact fear can have on a person and their judgment, versus trust in God.

The word fear used in this context is not the same as fearing God. The fear described here is the kind of fear that intimidates people and allows their actions to be controlled by fear. The wise alternative is trusting in the Lord to drive fear out and there we will find safety and security.

Fear is an extremely powerful emotion that can overcome and paralyze us. And fear can hinder us from being witnesses. The Bible guarantees that we will suffer for the sake of the gospel. Jesus suffered. The disciples suffered. Christians throughout the world continue to suffer for the sake of the gospel. But we should not fear. Jesus defeated sin and death when He rose from the dead. Death is not final. What confidence should this give us in the face of other fears?

About this Plan

Journey Witnesses

Because ignoring the great commission is not an option. Jesus left us with the great responsibility to go and make disciples, to be witnesses, and to be his hands and feet in this world. Don’t leave something so important to chance. This reading plan is created to help you make disciples who make disciples. Use this reading plan the Awana Journey Bible Study book entitled Witnesses.
