DAY 43 OF 221

Shortly after Jesus was tempted in the desert, He began His ministry. Shortly after beginning His ministry, He returned home. And the interaction He had with the people of Nazareth would soon become a kind of foreshadow of His reception with Jewish authorities. Instead of Israel welcoming home one of their own and considering the very possibility that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah, they rejected Him. But more than just rejection, they turned against Him, even tried to kill Him.

Jesus no doubt knew the potential consequences that awaited Him in Nazareth. Yet He made a point to show up and make a significant declaration—that He was exactly what Israel had been waiting for all along. Not at all bothered by the attempt on His life so early in His ministry, Jesus simply moved forward and continued to heal people, cast out demons and proclaim the kingdom.

Jesus rescues us not only from the slavery of sin. Sure it is good to be free, but the rescue Jesus offers is more. It is redemption. It is Jesus doing what was necessary to buy humanity back and lead us to life. In other words, it is not just rescue from something, but rescue to something. We are all witnesses to what Christ has done and it is our mission to go into the world and proclaim it.

About this Plan

Journey Witnesses

Because ignoring the great commission is not an option. Jesus left us with the great responsibility to go and make disciples, to be witnesses, and to be his hands and feet in this world. Don’t leave something so important to chance. This reading plan is created to help you make disciples who make disciples. Use this reading plan the Awana Journey Bible Study book entitled Witnesses.
