Finding Forgiveness Through the Pain
One thing you can count on is that you will end up being hurt by someone during your lifetime.
Someone will lie to you.
Someone will betray you.
Someone who you thought was your friend will turn his or her back on you.
Someone will say something bad about you to others.
The most important thing for you to remember is that you can’t control what others do or say, but you can control the way you respond. Never respond to others out of your hurt. Hurt people hurt people. In those moments you have to make a commitment to release the hurt to God—on a daily basis—until the pain begins to fade away. The pain won’t go away immediately but it will go away eventually as you continue to give it to God.
This is also a walk of faith. Even after you say a prayer that goes something like this, “Lord I forgive them for what they said about me,” you may still feel the pain of the hurt. That doesn’t mean that you are walking in un-forgiveness. It simply means that you are human and that healing a hurt heart is a process.
Even Jesus had to forgive the very people that nailed him to a cross and crucified Him.
