God Never ChangesSample
Your Strong Tower
Even if everything around you is changing, your heavenly Father has promised to protect and hide you from trouble. His Word is more sure than the storms swirling around you.
Proverbs 18:10 says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." The name of Jesus is the completion of all the names of God. When you say “Jesus” you have said it all: He’s healer, provider, banner, prince of peace, protector, and more.
When an enemy or a storm is raging against you and everything is shaken, there is no safer place to be than in the refuge of a strong tower. That tower isn’t going to get blown over or blown up; it is going to stay standing with you safely inside.
Everyone needs a safe place to run to. God is your safe place, and He is strong. If you are a Christian, you are “the righteous” one this Proverb is talking about, so go ahead and run into this place of refuge that has been provided for you. When you use the name of Jesus you run into your strong tower, and you are safe.
My pastor once told a story about when he was a small boy, staying at his grandmother’s house. One night he and his grandmother heard some noise and hid behind the couch. They watched as a burglar tried to climb into a nearby window.
My pastor was scared and didn’t know what to do, but his grandmother calmly placed her hand on his shoulder and began to whisper, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.” The man tried to put his leg over the windowsill, but it just wouldn’t go through. It seemed to hit an invisible barrier, and he couldn’t get in. Eventually, he stopped, slid the window back down, and walked away, shaking his head and muttering.
The name of Jesus was a shield, a strong tower that kept them safe! The same is true for you. I have often found God to be my refuge and my strength. When I draw near to Him, He is always there. He always draws near to me, and He will draw near to you. That truth never changes.
