 What’s the most rational explanation for our existence on earth? Where do we come from? How did we get here? Why are we here? 

How the universe began is the subject of endless debate. Where do you look for answers? Do you look to science? Do you look to religion? There are those who believe science and religion oppose each other. I don’t agree. I believe God is the author of nature and its laws, and true science and nature point to God as creator.

There are those who suggest that people of science live by fact and people of religion live by faith. But the truth is that everyone lives by both. No matter what origin theory you embrace, you must have faith to believe it. 

The theory of evolution may begin with observation and science, yet to embrace it requires faith because evolution cannot be proven scientifically. It requires a leap. And the particulars of the evolutionary theory have been changed repeatedly over the years to compensate for logical holes. Scientists cannot explain beyond a reasonable doubt how matter was created out of nothingness, or how atoms randomly joined themselves together to form life where none previously existed. That belief requires as great a leap of faith as does belief in divine creation. In fact, I am confident that evolution requires a greater leap of faith than creation by a divine being.

The truth is that we all require an element of faith to live our daily lives. It takes faith to believe in God. It also takes faith to be an atheist. It takes faith to believe in a created universe. It also takes faith to believe in the Big Bang and evolution. I am simply suggesting that, since my faith tends to weaken over time, I choose not to build my faith on what I consider irrational fantasies and myths. I don’t lean on Harry Potter books for an explanation of how to live my day-to-day life. I don’t turn to Star Wars to answer for whether God exists. I choose to accept what I believe is the most logical explanation for the human condition. I believe the Bible does the best job of that.
