Hope In Jesus

DAY 2 OF 7

When I was a teenager I was accused of stealing some money from my sister because they found similar currency notes in my drawer. But I refused to accept the crime. I argued the money was given to me by a relative who was leaving to France and didn’t need Indian currency there. But the odds were against me. I was then told that the next suspects would be our old maid and my sisters’ friends. I stopped arguing in my defense. My silence was accepted as, guilty as charged.

Although trivial, I can relate to being falsely accused. However, for many people their circumstances can be far worse and a lot more incriminating and embarrassing. We have Job who longs for someone to argue his case to God. And then realises that the only person who can argue his case is God. Then we have the Psalmist who says only God can clear his name. So he asks God to send out his light and truth. That is the hope that Job, the Psalmist and many people all over the world have.

This hope is not just a biblical hope. Even Buddhists long for the Buddha to return because they believe that when they get a glimpse of him they will all be saved.

The Psalmist’s prayer, whether he realized it or not, is no simple individualistic prayer, it has cosmic ramifications. The hope of God’s truth and light is revealed on that Christmas day. Jesus is the truth and he is the light. In John 8:12 Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” And in John 14:6, he says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”

That hope has become a reality for the world today. We can boldly say, “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”
