Savior: The Promise Fulfilled

DAY 18 OF 28

The Son of God - Mary

In yesterday´s verses, Mary found out what God had planned for her life – she would give birth to the Messiah! In today´s verses, she discovers how it´s will happen: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you”.

Mary could have made excuses not to comply with was she was being told, but she didn't. Her answer was: “I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

Let’s consider for a moment how remarkable Mary´s answer is. It took more trust in the Lord than we might think. Mary agrees to receive a pregnancy that will be suspicious (at best), and this in a culture that had the death penalty for adultery. Mary was a virgin betrothed with Joseph, but that they were not married yet, so to the eyes of the world she was having this baby out wedlock.

Mary’s response was to surrender herself to God as His willing servant. She experienced the grace of God (Luke 1:30) and believed the Word of God, and therefore she was ready to be used by the Spirit to accomplish the will of God. Her answer shows how much Mary trusted God. What an example for us to follow!

Dear Lord, help me to be prepared for every good work. I know You have plans for me. I know that some of them will be totally out of my comfort zone and will be unexpected. Help me respond to You in obedience in every situation. Amen.

Mini challenge: Celebrate Jesus today by serving others in a special – but simple - way. Sometimes the simplest celebrations, the little details, are the most treasured memories.

About this Plan

Savior: The Promise Fulfilled

Christmas can be an overwhelming season. We try to feel the joy of the celebration, but our long to-do lists and packed schedules often leave us exhausted and we crawl to Christmas Eve trying to survive until the 26th. In the middle of our very busy days, it's easy to forget what we really celebrate at Christmas: We celebrate Jesus. We celebrate His coming.
