Dear Addiction...Sample
Day 5: New Foundation
All of our past mistakes, missteps, ways we’ve gone wrong in our addiction don’t have to have power over us any longer if we submit ourselves to God and the process of recovery. A new foundation is formed when we continue to take each next right step.
Our foundation must be built on something solid, though, or the sins of our past will keep us shackled in chains. When we say yes to Jesus and yes to recovery, we are acknowledging the power of being made new. The bible says if we are in Christ, we are a new creation. That means we can think new thoughts instead of the old lies, that we can make better decisions than the ones we’ve made before and cope with stresses in healthy ways instead of using, drinking, eating, gambling, or anything else we formerly used to dull the pain.
God doesn’t want you to have a new pretty good life—he wants abundance for you in your recovery! Making his word and promises part of your new foundation is what will give you the strength and stamina to withstand the storms of life when they come. Because they will come again. And if your new foundation isn’t built on God’s word and working your individual program of recovery, you may find your house turned upside down at the first sign of strong winds.
This is a time for rebuilding; just make sure you’re building your house on the Rock.
