Devotional: The Rest of Our Father
Resting in God does not mean a ceasing from work, but learning to rest while you are working. Rest is a position we occupy in Christ (Psalm 37:7, Hebrews 4:1-11). God revealed Himself to Gideon as Jehovah Shalom, which means “God our peace”. The peace of God does not necessarily mean an absence of trouble, but it means that we know God as our peace. At first, Gideon had thought that God had abandoned them, but later he had great confidence and boldness in God because he had arrived at a place of peace (John 14:27, Philippians 4:6-7, Judges 6:23-24).
Testimony:
We had a great desire to take a mission team to Nepal and we felt the Lord told us that we should go. Our only problem was the fact that the Hindu nation was at war and we could not get in. We booked our flight tickets and within a week a cease-fire was called. The cease-fire started two days before we entered the country and ended a week after we left. God truly knows what He is doing when He gives us a specific assignment.
Reflective question:
- What are some of the areas where you are struggling to enter God’s rest?
