Messiah For You

DAY 4 OF 5

The trade-in

What if we told you that for the next 60 minutes you could trade in any smartphone for the newest one - for free? Would you do it?

What if you had the newest and best smartphone, and we asked you to trade it in for the most outdated and broken one we found. Would you do it? Would you give up your best for our worst? Probably not.

No exchange seems worth it unless it’s for the better. Which is probably why all of heaven stopped in amazement when Jesus chose to leave his throne, to come to this small planet to die on a cross.

Jesus willingly traded-in his perfect life for our broken ones; his perfect body for our sicknesses; and his sinless heart for every wrong act we have committed.

That seems like a foolish trade-in, doesn’t it? Why would anyone trade-in the best for the worst? Unless what Jesus was saying is that you are worth the exchange. To him, you were worth dying for. And when he resurrected, he went back to the Father to continue to intercede for you.

Do you know what that means? Every time you and I mess up, Jesus covers our sin with his love. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your mistake. He sees you dressed in the love of Jesus.

The book of Hebrews explains: Jesus lives forever to intercede with God... He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.

Do you want to hold onto to your brokenness and mistakes; or do you want to trade-in your worse for God’s best? There is no cost to you. Jesus took care of it in the ultimate battle of good and evil. Read about it in tomorrow’s devotional.
