DAY 3 OF 5

Jesus is unique!

Best and worst

Give everyone a chance to talk about the best and worst moments of their day.

Where did you encounter Jesus today?

Talk to each other about how each family member encountered Jesus, and about something or someone that reminded them of Him.

• Who was your favorite hero when you were a child, and who is it now? Why this person particularly?

• Why is Jesus the kind of hero you can follow forever, according to Hebrews 7?

• If you could write a slogan about Jesus based on Hebrews 7, what would it be?

Hebrews 7 describes the attributes that make Jesus unique.

Thought for the day

When you get to heaven, Jesus would probably say:

“Just forget it. I suppose we have those books around here somewhere . . . Frankly, though, nobody up here pays any attention to them. I will go and open My other book (see Rev. 20:12), the Book of Life—the book that has in it the names of everybody I ever drew to Myself by dying and rising. And My Father will smile and say, ‘Hey! You’re just the way I pictured you!’ But Me, I’ll just wink at you and say, ‘C’mon up here and plunk yourself down by my great white throne and let’s you and me have a good long practice laugh before this party gets so loud we can’t even hear how much fun we’re having.’”

Your ticket into heaven was paid for long ago: in 33 AD, on Golgotha, by Jesus on the cross, to be exact. Nothing we do can make God love us more than He does. And nothing we do can make God love us any less than He does. He loves us!

Activity

Learn to be grateful for everything God gives you every day. Take a few minutes for every family member to share the things for which they are grateful. Plan a family fun night: Purchase basic pizzas and let everyone add their favorite toppings. Enjoy the meal together and then play a board game of your choice.

Prayer

Father, You have given Jesus, our Friend and Savior, the Name above all other names! We are grateful to know You; we praise You for the things that You have already done in our lives. Amen.

Random act of kindness

This week, pray for people who you know no longer believe in Jesus, or who have never believed in Him. Make contact with one of these people and show them Jesus’ love.

For parents only

Focus on the joy that your children bring. See them as gifts from God, because children are the carriers of His light!

About this Plan

Growing Together By Ewald & Beatrix van Rensburg

This reading plan is ideal for family devotions and will remind readers of the importance of including the Lord in everything they do. Each devotion includes an opportunity for family members to discuss their day, a thought for the day, a family activity, a prayer, a “random act of kindness” and a Scripture verse. The content for this reading plan is based on Ewald and Beatrix van Rensburg’s “Growing Together”.
