The Daily Dose: 30 Days to a Healthy SoulSample
Trust God’s Heart
Isaiah 8:17 "I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him."
Do you ever long for God to give you clear answers to your questions? We all want answers. We’ve got questions and if we’re honest, we can’t understand why God doesn’t speak more clearly to us. Henry Nouwen once said, “Getting answers to my questions is not the goal of the spiritual life. Living in the presence of God is the greater call.”
I get so caught up in needing God to answer me. I get frustrated and hurt by His silence. But I’m starting to see that His silence is a gift. He’s growing my faith through seasons of silence. He’s teaching me to trust Him. He’s calling me to a higher place—the place of His presence.
In Isaiah 8:17, we're given the best resolve in the world, the resolve to wait for the Lord, the resolve to hope in the Lord. As far as resolutions go, there is no better one to make. Though God may hide his face for a season, there is always a reason for it, and joy always comes in the morning.
There is no greater sign of spiritual maturity than the willingness to settle into God’s presence even when He seems silent. To trust that in His goodness He’s not withholding any good thing from us.
Do you trust the Father enough to settle for His silence? Are you willing to try?
