UnpluggedSample

Everyone knows that a healthy heart rhythm is critical for maintaining good health. A steady heartbeat is kind of necessary, right? If our heartbeat is irregular then we need to see a physician for a checkup. It’s more difficult to admit that our souls require rhythm too. We’re simply unaware of the spiritual rhythms that are just as crucial to our health and well-being.
Since our lives are increasingly disconnected or interrupted from the rhythms of God’s world, we do not hear the underlying whisper of God’s heartbeat that is meant to sustain us. We become unaware of the symptoms that should alert us to our growing ill health.
So when God says to us, “Come to me, and I will give you rest,” we don’t respond.
God tries again: “Lay your burdens down, children. Walk with me, and your walk will be burden-free.” Again, we don’t pause to listen and respond.
God says, “I want you to be fascinated - not with all your stuff - but with me.” We continue to ignore.
Ever patient and ever persistent, God nudges us time after time: “Slow down. Look up. Be here with me.”
We think we might hear something, but before we can actually name what we’re hearing or He even has a chance to reply, the perpetual dings from our phones—new notifications alerting us to new messages, posts, replies, etc. distract us and prevent us from stepping into that moment with Him. We can’t help but move our thumbs across our phones.
How many times has this happened to you? How many times have you sensed God telling you something, but that somethingwas quickly drowned out by distractions or responsibilities that came up?
Maybe today it’s time to check your spiritual rhythm. Pray that God would speak to you in a new way, and ask that He help you hold tightly to the things He is teaching you!

About this Plan

Life is moving at an incredibly fast pace. It can be hard, in the midst of all the things we have going on, to find time to connect with God in meaningful ways. “Unplugged” will challenge you to evaluate your habits with technology and busyness, and encourage you to pursue moments of solitude – times to connect between you and Jesus.
