A prayer for world peace

God of compassion, hear the cries of the people of the world. The Scriptures tell us, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27, NKJV).

Thank You for the peace You have granted in our personal lives. Lord Jesus, empower us to bring peace to every situation and circumstance in which we find ourselves, so that Your Name may be upheld and glorified.

We bring before You the religious extremists of the world who are persecuting Your children in the Middle East, in Africa, in America and in other parts of the world. Please grant strength to those being persecuted and remind them that their eternal security is in Your hands.

We are told, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels’” (Psalm 122:6–7, NIV). We bring the holy land of Israel to You, Mighty God. Protect Israel from those who want to destroy Your chosen nation. We pray for families of people who have lost their lives in the unrest there.

The prophet Isaiah declared, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6, NIV).

We eagerly await Your second coming, O Lord. You are the Prince of Peace and when You set up Your eternal kingdom on earth, the world will be filled with Your glory, peace and prosperity.
