Sacred Holidays: A Devotional Leading Up To Valentine's DaySample
DAY ONE:
Finding true love is no joke. I feel like I’ve chased after it my entire life. As a young child I chased after in it in an attempt to catch the true love of my parents. And then as I got older, I chased after it from boys, and more boys, and then boys pretending they were men, and then men acting like they were boys. After all this chasing I found my one man who doesn’t complete me, but he sure is the best complement God has ever given me.
And you want to know something that shocked me? Chris (my husband) isn’t my true love.
Don’t get me wrong, my man is awesome. But Chris would be the first to tell you how quickly he can lose his patience, how kindness doesn’t come easily when I’ve spent too much at Target that day, that it’s hard to rejoice in the midst of struggle, that sometimes he crumbles, doubts and just wants to give up, how some days our relationship will end when one of us passes from this earth, and that far too often he brags, is jealous, is arrogant, is rude, wants his way, is moody, resents a choice I made, or is flat-out happy when someone else fails. This man who I love, who I respect more than anyone on the planet, who embodies the type of person I’d love our little girls to marry, is imperfect. He fights hard to love me and our girls, but his love fails.
In all my chasing after the true love of others, I’ve found that there is only One whose love has ever been true.
Before you x out of this plan because you had hoped it would be one on romantic love, hold on for just a minute. You are worth knowing this kind of love. Whether you are was desperate for a relationship or desperate for a relationship to change (I’ve been in both places for sure), I want to encourage you to give yourself this time to seek out the truest love you’ve ever known. To soak in for a few days a love that will never disappoint.
How does that sound? Keep reading!
Read Psalm 86:15 and note the kind of love God has for you.
God’s love for us abounds and is steadfast. “Abound” means that it is big—bigger than big, constantly growing. And “steadfast” means that it is also firmly fixed or immovable; it isn’t going anywhere. So God’s love for us is not only constantly increasing but is also always there. Nothing you could do could keep His love from growing for you or going anywhere.
1 John 4:8 says that “Anyone who does not love, does not know God, because God is love.” God is love, He doesn’t just love well. He is love.
As we are searching after true love this week, let’s ask the One who is love to define His true love for us. I can promise you that it will not disappoint!
Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 and note all the things that God says about love.
Now read 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 through one more time and replace the word love with God; after all, God is love.
Are you ready to find out more about a true love that will never break your heart or disappoint? Keep reading this plan. Let’s seek after something greater than butterflies and romances that only exist in movies. Let’s chase after the One who is love and loves us with a 1 Corinthians 13 type of love.
