Your Spiritual Life: Devotions From Time Of GraceSample
Less me, more you
Dear Lord, of all the changes I know I need to make in my life, the biggest is to have more you in my heart and less me-me-me. I’m surrounded by idols, intrigued and entranced by things to chase and have and worship. But they are trash compared to the thrill of having you.
Without your help I would become my own idol. I would seek my own pleasures, pursue my own comfort, soothe my own insecurities, and try every way I could to make myself bigger. My friend St. Paul has a better way: “Whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus as my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him” (Philippians 3:7-9).
I owe you the design and creation of my life. You gave me parents and shelter, food and friends, an education and a purpose. I live in your world, not vice versa. I owe you my lifelong thanks for the bloody rescue from Satan and hell. I have peace of mind, cleansing from sinful guilt, and the help of your Spirit who lives in me. I have been washed and fed, taught by the Word, and protected by the heavenly host. Lord, you are my all in all.
