God Fights For UsSample
Trust His Time Frame
How many of us get impatient very easily? Say, “I!” In our fast-paced generation, we want everything done five minutes ago. However, in the spiritual realm it is definitely not like this. Everything takes the perfect amount of time. Who determines this? An eternal God. Somebody who is not restrained by time and space. In the book of Ecclesiastes, we read that there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens. (3:1) We need spiritual wisdom to understand that God’s timing it is not our timing.
The third truth we can learn from Joshua’s story regards spiritual wisdom when it comes to time. First, we saw that when we learn to trust God and believe in His promises, we can go through the valley of shadow of death knowing that He will fight for us. Secondly, we learned that we need to prepare before stepping into battle. Joshua and the army marched all night long to prepare for battle and to take the enemy by surprise. Now, the battle begins and Joshua prays asking God to hold the Sun still so that they could finish the battle in that day.
Clearly, when it comes to us, we would like to get the job at the first interview. We would love it if our kids could take in, through a twenty-minute sermon, what took us twenty years to learn. If you were to battle cancer, you would likely pray for it to be beaten at first round of chemotherapy. It is as simple as that. Not one of us desires to spend time in the valley of shadow of death. We want to get out of there as soon as possible.
Nevertheless, for God to fight our battles, we are going to have to trust His timeframe. It is natural that we would want the victory to our battles as soon as possible. But we must give time for God to move. Allow Him to decide when to act. On the other hand, this does not give us a license for spiritual procrastination. There is a time to move. Joshua and his army did what they had to do, but they trusted God and allowed Him to do His part at the right time.
Thought of the Day
For God to fight your battles, you are going to have to trust His time frame.
