We are ALL Builders

I love building! Growing up in a Master Builder’s home, offered many occasions to play with sand, cement and bricks. As a kid, you would always find me building something, a fort, a house, a skyscraper, laying bricks on top of each other somewhere close to where the REAL building was taking place, dreaming of one day when I would build my own house to live in. I have had the privilege (and the pain) of building a few houses in my life and I still love to take a blank sheet, dream, sketch and plan a new building.

As you might expect, I love to watch the documentaries on TV like, “Amazing Architecture” or “The New Skyscrapers of the World” etc. One of my favourite programs is “Grand Designs”, a program that shows the journey of people building grand houses. What I love about the program is that they show the struggle that people go through in building their dream home. For some it is the location, for others it is getting the planning permission and for many, it is the difficulty of getting finances in place in order to achieve what they set out to do.

Proverbs 24:3 says,

Wise people are builders—they build families, businesses, communities.

And through intelligence and insight their enterprises are established and endure.

We are ALL builders, we are all building something! Families, businesses, churches, schools, Non-Profit enterprises etc.

When God was looking for someone to build Him a Temple, a representation of the worship in heaven on earth, He used a man called Bezalel. This is how it is recorded in Exodus 31:1-5

God spoke to Moses: “See what I’ve done; I’ve personally chosen Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur of the tribe of Judah. I’ve filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him skill and know-how and expertise in every kind of craft to create designs and work in gold, silver, and bronze; to cut and set gemstones; to carve wood—he’s an all-around craftsman.”

We have been personally chosen by God to be builders, filled with the Spirit of God. God has given us all skill, insight and ability to do what He has called us to do. We are all different, He is the Great Master Builder directing the great work across the world. Each one of us has been filled with a genius to accomplish His purpose. So whatever and wherever we may find ourselves on God’s great building site, know that God has chosen us, filled us, skilled us to do all that He has called us to do, and it is through wisdom that a House is built.

Let us be “all-around craftsmen” of God, building with wisdom and insight so that because of what God is doing through us, the next verse may come to pass.

Because of their skilled leadership the hearts of people are filled with the treasures of wisdom

and the pleasures of spiritual wealth. Proverbs 24:4

Build for His glory and honour.
