Passion 2019 Reading Plan Sample

Passion 2019 Reading Plan

DAY 16 OF 30

“The way to experiencing the grace and mercy of God is through the wound. It’s through the hurt, it’s through the brokenness, it’s through the struggle, through the addiction, through the foolishness, through the weakness. It’s not through the strength.”

-Matt Chandler, Passion 2019

In John 4, Jesus offers the woman at the well streams of water welling up to eternal life. It was an offer she desperately wanted and knew she needed. But Jesus then follows with a direct address of the hardest, most painful part of this woman’s past. He knew that the way to true healing, lasting freedom, and eternal satisfaction was through the wound.

The same is true for us. The offer of living water is so profound because the struggle to find peace on our own comes up dry every time. We try so hard to cover up the sin, hurt, and brokenness in our lives. We crave the living water but are afraid of opening up our wounds to the Healer. The hurt may feel too deep, the sin too dark, or the addiction too gripping. His invitation is to bring your broken past - and the messy present - to Him and let the healing begin. You don’t have to rely on your own attempts any longer.

The beautiful truth is that it is through His wounds, suffered on the cross, that our wounds are healed. On the cross, Jesus suffered the ultimate pain. He took the weight of our sin to the grave and rose again in glorious victory once and for all. By His wounds, we are healed.
